Ich bin mir nicht sicher, an wen sich dieses Buch richtet. Für Anfänger ist es zu allgemein gehalten, Profis werden nichts Neues darin finden. Zum Teil ist das Buch eine rudimentäre Einführung in Photoshop zum anderen werden Basis-Zeichentechniken besprochen, die aber genauso gut in einem Buch für analoges Zeichnen stehen könnten. Zum Beispiel Perspektive - sollte man als Zeichner auf jeden Fall beherrschen, aber das ist doch kein Merkmal speziell im digitalen Bereich. Wenn ich an digitales Zeichnen denke, erwarte ich unter dem Stichwort Basistechniken (Basic Techniques) nicht nur kleine Hinweise wie ich meinen Desktop organisiere, wie die Tools von Photoshop heißen oder was man mit Ebenen anstellen kann. Ich erwarte eher ein: Wie erreiche ich das, was ich aus der analogen Zeichenwelt schon kenne, mit digitalen Mitteln. Sicher spielen Ebenen dabei eine Rolle, aber ein Hinweis allein auf ihre Existenz hilft mir nicht weiter.Fazit: Wer als Anfänger ein Buch über digitale Zeichentechniken sucht, greift besser zu einem anderen. Als Bildband kann man das Buch allerdings getrost mit in den Schrank stellen, denn die Fantasy- und SF-Illustrationen sind wirklich sehr schön.

Das englischsprachige Buch bietet nicht den Umfang einer Bibel, obwohl der Untertitel das suggerieren möchte. Gleichwohl sind eine Menge grundsätzlicher Überlegungen und Techniken zum digitalen Malen enthalten. Es gibt die üblichen Informationen über die Gestaltung des Arbeitsplatzes, die verwendete Software (z.b. Corel Painter, Photoshop und ein 3d-Design Programm wie z.B. 3dsmax oder Maya). Der Autor gibt einen guten Einblick in seine digitale Trickkiste. So kann sehr einfach nachvollzogen werden, wie eine räumliche Anordnung von Objekten und ihre vergleichsweise einfache Gestaltung in einem 3D-Programm in eine 2D-Illustration integriert werden kann. Weitere wichtige Bestandteile sind Kapitel über Licht, Farben und die damit hervorgerufenen Stimmungen. Im Titel ganz richtig angegeben stehen Sciece-Fiction und Fantasy-Sujets im Vordergrund. Druck und Aufmachung sind angenehm und animieren auch einfach nur zum Schmökern.

Gary Tonge, ist ein Meister seines Fachs.In der Concept Art Branche seit langem bekannt und gefeiert, wird dass auch jedem klar der vorher noch nicht von ihm gehört hat, sobald er dieses Buch aufschlägt.Die Bilder sind atemberaubend schön und von ausserordentlicher Komposition.Das Buch selber ist hochwertig verarbeitet, der Druck fehlerlos und macht somit auch im Bücherregal oder der privaten Sammlung gut was her.Tonge gibt Schritt für Schritt Anleitungen die seinen Schaffensprozess wiederspiegeln und dem Leser auf diese Weise, den großen Aufwand an Denkprozessen, Vorbereitung und Ausfertigung eines Werkes näherbringen.Das Hauptaugenmerk liegt dabei auf Landschaften und Urbanen Umgebungen. Aber auch auf Fantasy Charaktere und Transportmittel und Maschinen finden in Bold Visions ihren Platz.Ich kann es jedem angehenden und fortgeschrittenen Digital Artist nur wärmstens ans Herz legen.Was man nicht erwarten darf:Dieses Buch gibt den Schaffensprozess digitaler Kunst wieder - es gibt nur bedingt Auskunft über die fundamentalen Grundsätze der Kunst. Wer also die Grundsätze wie: Komposition, Form, Farbe und Licht, sowie die handwerklichen Fähigkeiten noch nicht beherrscht, sollte sich zunächst anderen Werken zuwenden.Für angehende Digital Artists/ Concept Artists die, die oben genannten Fundamente bereits studieren und/oder verinnerlicht haben, sowie für Sammler und Freunde der digitalen Kunst allerdings kann ich es bedenkenlos empfehlen.

The good thing is all these concepts are explained clearly with great illustrations as examples.The techniques and tips are presented in a pointer style as well as in the form of several step-by-step workflow screenshots. These step-by-step processes take a look at how Gary Tonge creates his digital sci-fi illustrations, as well as explain the considerations he takes to achieve certain effects -- sometimes dictated by clients. These are not tutorials that go into technical software details like changing opacity jitter and settings.This book is recommended to beginners to digital paintings, especially fantasy and science-fiction artists.If you're looking for step-by-step tutorials into digital painting, you might also want to check out ImagineFX's Fantasy Workshop. Also als eine Bibel würde ich dieses Buch nicht betiteln, jedoch erklärt der Autorin verschiedenen Schritten Arbeitsweisen in Photoshop. Anhand von Beispielen verdeutlichter dies.Als Anfänger bis Fortgeschrittener Photoshop-Künstler lässt sich das Buch sehr gutweiter empfehlen. Der Profi ansich wird denke ich weniger damit anfangen können.Das Buch ansich enhält viele Hochglanz-Bilder und der Einband ist auch prima.Kann ich weiter empfehlen.MfG

Der Hammer! Alles wie gewünscht dargestellt und erklärt. Verschiedene Charaktere und Stilrichtungen von sehr Talentierten Kunstler dargestellt. Das Inspiriert und hilft sich zu verbessern.
